Treatment Options

At the moment there aren't many good treatment options for latex allergies. Using an EpiPen is a good treatment option for a reaction that is life threatening (such as your throat closing up).

• To administer an EpiPen you follow these steps.

1) Remove the EpiPen from it's case

2) Remove the cap

3) Make sure the person is sitting or laying down

4) Identify the middle of the thigh

5) Press the EpiPen firmly against this part of the thigh and hold it there (push until it clicks)

6) Hold it for 10 seconds

7) Call 911 (This step is extremely important, even though the EpiPen has already been administered)

• You can also talk to your doctor about different creams or steroids you may be able to take to help reactions heal.

Here are some tips I can give as someone who is allergic to latex (these are what I personally do, you may want to consult your doctor before trying any of these):

• Chapstick helps when having an allergic reaction on the lips or mouth (if lips are extremely dry)

• Mouthwash is a great way to clean your gums during an allergic reaction (3 times a day, morning, noon, and night)

• Wash the area of an allergic reaction as soon as pain or itchiness is felt (getting it off as soon as possible will stop or lessen the reaction)

• Taking Benadryl can help with the pain (Aspirin or ibuprofen may also help)
